Best 3D Animation Software for Mac

If you are a Mac user then you will have experienced the sometimes frustrating job of finding suitable software at an affordable price.

When I was searching for 3D animation software a year or so ago, it was actually quite surprising how much software was available out there. The problem was really deciding on which was the best 3D animation software for Mac as opposed to finding any software at all!

Firstly, I had to consider the price of course. Secondly, I needed to consider the type of 3D modelling I wanted to actually do. As an amateur, I wanted to try different genres to try and find my calling.

So, there commenced a long-winded month of research, browsing the internet for reviews and other peoples opinions etc.

I actually ended up creating a small website of reviews and advice on the best 3D animation software for Mac and also for PC because I ended up with so much information. The website address is at the bottom of this article and provides reviews of many different 3D animation software packages.

My main advice is to start off small and work your way up. Don't spend loads of money on something you may end up not using very much or get bored of.

The product I ended up with will actually surprise many of you. It was a decision I made for 2 main reasons. Firstly, financially it suited my pocket. Secondly, I felt it was the best product to give me the grounding and learning that I needed in order to decide if I wanted to invest more money on a more professional product further down the line.

The 3D software I primarily purchased was Illusion Mage and it did me proud for the first year of my animating 'career'. I have since upgraded to Poser 9 but I learnt all I needed with Illusion Mage and at a great price too.

There have been many bad things spread about the internet when it comes to Illusion Mage. But I purchased it for under $50 and it was brilliant.

Illusion Mage is designed for both beginners and advanced users. As a beginner myself I was amazed at how user friendly the package was. Unlike the free 3D animation software I'd downloaded before, with Illusion Mage I began to create digital animation immediately. No more tearing my hair out for days trying to get the simplest action done!

The package comes with an extensive video tutorial which explains everything you need to know about the 3D animation program and step-by-step instructions on what to do for beginners. Combined with the manuals it all makes the learning process far easier.

If you are anything like me then you'll want to get started immediately. But I thoroughly advise that you spend a couple of hours watching the videos and reading the manuals as it will save you loads of time later on.

If you are a beginner like I was then you'll be able to create your first animation model in just a few hours. Like anything in life, a bit of patience is needed in the early stages but you won't regret this purchase when you start seeing the results.

3D Animation

3D animation is a graphic presentation more advanced with the help of the computer and digital displayers. Animations such as films, presentations, travel, cartoons, TV commercials and web stuff (life on the Web or Internet) became popular after people tasted the 3D graphics. General multimedia stuff like Illustration 3D, AV presentations, digital video, 3D Medical & scientific Animations are very useful in the actual application of the life in the respective environments.

Animations and graphics

3D computer graphics and animations are different from 2D computer graphics / animations in a 3D representation of geometric data is stored in the computer for the purposes of performing calculations and rendering 2D images. Rendering images are used for later viewing or for viewing in real time. 3D graphic animations show the angle of the camera or audience, virtual filming aerial footage and puts the 3D model of virtual reality perfectly for the 3D animation is absolutely real. This is called movement of follow-up, which is when we followed the exact movement of the camera in real life who takes on the film and that is perfectly replicated in 3D. The same effect is also often used on the big screen where 3D animations are used to create scenes of the film.

Realization of 3D Animations

3D animations are created based on a theme or concept. The theme is developed with more design details; flux animations is called storyboards. The nature and purpose of the design and development are jobs for instructors based on the preliminary specification. Based on the orientation of the table of storyboards also keyframes must be developed. All the characters or objects are called 3D models which are data files that contain the information needed to display or "make" with objects in 3D. Key framing is the process to assign values to the parameters to specific moments in time that specifies the images in an animated sequence. A Texture map is required to manipulate the system or model on the models. Texture mapping is a way to control the diffuse color of a surface on a basis of pixel by pixel, rather than by assigning a unique global value. The graphic designer and developer of character can achieve by applying a color bitmap to the surface. Color profiles / plan can also be generated by the application itself to create a procedural texture. Finally, the sequences are to make to get output with compression. Rendering is the process of production of bitmaps from a point of view of 3D models in a 3D scene. An animation is a series of these images (taken from a photo of the scene) with the slightly changed scene.

3D Animation Software - A Quick Look At How It Is Used

3D software these days is limitless it seems, there are several types on the market and they all vary in capability, functionality and of course, price. From an amateur to a professional, there is a piece of software out there to suit your every need. Making sure you download animation software that's right for your needs is crucial, or you could end up paying more than you need to.

The first movie that ever to use computer animation software in making the film was 'Westworld' in 1973. This really set the trend in the movie industry by wowing audiences and influencing directors and gave us movies such as 'The Abyss', 'Terminator', 'Forrest Gump', 'Jurassic Park' and 'Toy Story' only to name a few. Video games make use of computer animation software, in a slightly different way, to help the consoles running them cope with the massive frames per second. With 3D animation, the world will quite literally never be the same again. Download animation software to begin creating projects like this and more, depending on your style.

Mostly it used to be just objects that are being used for the process of computer animation, but as technology has developed, many films have used powerful software such as IllusionMage to create stunning human movement including; Beowulf, The Incredibles and Avatar. Things can only get better for the film industry, with the latest craze of 3D being added to movies, the possibilities truly are endless. The existence of animation software has produced an extremely positive effect in the movie industry, today's films would not be the same at all, since almost every one has some form of computer animation involved. This really gets movie enthusiasts more excited about the latest movies, because the realism and stunning effect of the 3D animation really pulls the viewer in and makes for a more dramatic and brilliant cinema experience. To make use of these traits yourself make sure you download animation software that is right for your uses.

There are various types of animation software; the most popular types are computer generated imagery (CGI), Claymation and stop motion. These options should help you see what is used in many TV programs and movies, such as Avatar and Wallace and Gromit.

- Using computer generated imagery, (CGI) objects are modelled with a 3D software package and then rigged up to be able to virtually move them around. The objects can be manipulated and controlled to create the required movements, and the software creates a frame (image) for every slight movement and creates the video to play back at 25fps (UK) or 30fps (US)

- Stop motion uses physical models that are modelled by hand and an image is captured for every movement and again, set to play back at 25fps (UK) or 30fps (US)

- Claymation uses the same process as stop motion, but the objects are modelled out of clay and painted for extra-realism.

Best Animation Software

As a child I tried my hand at animation with a Super 8mm film camera. I made a few plasticine models, got a few tripod-mounted lights from dad's university and set up shop in his garage. Wow. What a painstaking process! 3 weeks later I had 1 minute of shakyjuddery stop-motion animation. But I was hooked.

For me as a kid the kings of animation were British TV animator Oliver Postgate (who created some wonderful stop motion like Bagpuss and Ivor the engine) and Ray Harryhausen who spent his career making stop motion dinosaurs and monsters in classics like Sinbad and the eye of the tiger. Today of course, I watch films like Avatar and Pixar movies and want to create visuals just like that. I wish!

Since my first attempts to animate all those years back, I've tried my hand at animation with more modern techniques - i.e. a computer and 3d animation software. My initial experiences were not that much different from my first attempts with a super 8mm film camera. Basically not very good!

The problem I had initially, was that I purchased a pretty expensive bit of software that was really a league above my understanding. It wasn't the best animation software in the world but it also wasn't the worst. The trouble was it didn't have the tutorials that an amateur like me really needed in the first stages of what is actually a steep learning curve. I persevered but made little progress then got a bit bored. Bad start. But I didn't give up.

I really didn't have any success until last year when I finally purchased the best 3D animation software that I've owned since taking up this great hobby. The product I ended up with was not only excellent in terms of price but also gave me the basic tools for making animations of relatively high quality. What it proved to me was that sometimes it's best to start cheap and simply and learn the tricks and techniques before diving straight in with something too high-tech. Now I've learnt a lot I am considering moving onto another 3d animation software product and taking things to the next level. The best thing I ever did though was start with a cheap but cheerful product first.

I have noticed recently that many of the best 3D animation software products on the market have come down considerably in price. Now, don't be fooled, you aren't going to be making Avatar-quality films with this stuff. However, you will be blown away by how good some of your animations will be once you get the hang of what you are doing.

So, be advised, if you are beginner then start cheaply and with something that provides good tutorials and training support. Some of the best animation software out there isn't the most expensive. Good luck!
